Chiropractic

The focus of traditional health care is on germs and blood. Chiropractic is different. Chiropractic produces results by helping your nervous system work the way it should.

It’s a scientific fact that your brain, spinal cord and the rest of your nerves control every aspect of your body. Hinder the vital nerve links between your brain and your body, and ill health can result. A common source of interference comes from the moving bones that encase the “information super highway” of your spinal cord.

These “subluxations” can produce a variety of health problems.

Nerve pressure can cause numbness, weakness or the under-performance of organs and tissues. Or, spinal misalignment can cause nerve tissue to stretch, chafe or become irritated. This can distort nerve messages between your body and your brain. The result? Hyperactive organ function, high blood pressure or even pain.

The medical approach puts chemicals into your bloodstream to change the way your body works. Laxatives to speed up elimination. Antacids to reduce stomach acid. Besides the side effects, possible kidney damage and fatal mistakes, drugs often ignore the real cause of the problem.

Instead, the focus of chiropractic care is on the integrity of your nervous system.

A thorough examination helps locate areas of nervous system compromise. The moving bones of the spine are common culprits. Then, specific chiropractic adjustments help reduce these interferences. The intent is to restore your body’s ability to regulate and heal itself. Without drugs. Without surgery.

Chiropractic is simple. It’s natural. It honors the wisdom of your body. And it has helped millions enjoy relief and better health for more than a century.

First Visit

By consulting our practice, you’re taking an exciting first step toward better health.

Chiropractic care is different. It is this difference that offers new ways to get well and stay well. We’ve helped a wide variety of people.

So, the first thing we offer is hope. You’ll receive plenty of that here!

You’ll meet the doctor after filling out some brief paperwork describing you, your health history and your health goals. We offer this initial consultation so we can both “get to know one another."

If you’re a good candidate for chiropractic care and we think we can help, an examination follows. We’ll study the way you turn and bend. We may test your reflexes. These and other physical, orthopedic and chiropractic test help us locate areas of your spine that could be the cause of your problem.

Our examination is thorough and will put you at ease.

We’ll study the results and give you a complete report of our findings.

We’ll show you what we found and conclusions we’ve reached. If we find that you’d benefit from consulting a different practitioner, we’ll make the proper referral.

Otherwise, we’ll recommend a program of specific chiropractic adjustments. With a plan in place to fulfill your health goals, future visits will take just minutes. The purpose of these frequent visits will be to locate and reduce your vertebral subluxations and monitor the healing process.

You join millions who have enjoyed better health-without drugs or surgery.

Subluxations

Maybe you’ve never heard of subluxations. That’s OK. There probably was a time when you’d never heard of AIDS or Alzheimer’s.

You have over 200 bones in your body. Whenever two bones come together at a joint, there can be movement. Since joints in your spine are close to your spinal cord and nerve roots, too much or too little joint motion can have serious effects.

If spinal bones get “stuck” and don’t move right, they can irate or “chafe” delicate nerves. If a joint moves too much, spinal bones can press against adjacent nerve tissue. This can interfere with the vital “life force” transmitted over your nervous system that helps keep your brain in touch with your body.

The result is the vertebral subluxation complex, or more simply, a subluxation.

More than bones and nerves are involved. Muscles can become too tight or too weak.

Disc, ligaments, and other connective tissues can become inflamed. Bone spurs and arthritic degeneration can set in.

Subluxations are serious!

However, the most important aspect of a subluxation is its effect on your nervous system. Compromising the way your nervous system controls and regulates your body can have unhealthy consequences. Distorted communications between your brain and your body can cause all kinds of health problems beyond just headaches and backaches.

Your chiropractic doctor is the only licensed health care professional dedicated to the detection, reduction and prevention of spinal subluxations.

You’re in good hands!

Adjustments

Spinal joints that are “locked up,” fixated or not moving right can affect your health by “choking” or irritating nearby nerve tissue. Chiropractic adjustments add motion to these stuck areas. This helps restore nervous system integrity and can improve the healing process.

There are many ways to adjust the spine.

Sometimes the doctor’s hands deliver a quick, highly accurate thrust. Or an instrument directs a repeatable force to a fixated spinal joint.

Other times a slow constant pressure is used. Some chiropractic doctors use special tables with moving sections. Several areas of the spine may be adjusted, or just one area.

The key is to use the precise amount of energy. At the exact spot. In the right direction. At just the right time, to get spinal joints moving again.

Chiropractic is truly and art. Your chiropractic doctor has become a master at one or more adjusting techniques.

Just about anyone can be adjusted. Newborns, infants, children seniors and even failed back surgery patients can benefit. Naturally, your doctor tailors your chiropractic care to your size age and unique health problem.

With the intent of reducing nervous system irritation, chiropractic adjustments are specific. Targeted. Focused. And more precise than spinal “mobilization.” It is this precision, combined with the purpose of reducing nervous system irritation, which has helped so many people.

Whiplash

You’re in your car, relaxed waiting at a stoplight. Suddenly you hear the screeching of tires behind and the harsh sound of metal hitting metal. In the split second before you can brace yourself, you feel your car moving forward from some unseen force!

You’ve been rear-ended.

What happens in these few seconds can have tragic consequences. And what you do about it in the next hours, days and weeks can forever affect your health.

Upon impact, your body pushes deeply into your seat. Your head, momentarily isolated by your neck, delays its reaction while your body quickly reaches the limits of your seat. Then, your body instantly changes directions, moving forward to the limits of your seat belt, your head is jerked back and then forward beyond its normal limits. Everything seems to be happening in slow motion, yet you are unable to stop your head form whipping backward and then forward.

First surprise. Then Anger. Then Pain.

Don’t minimize your own injuries because your car has sustained little or no damage. An immediate chiropractic examination is essential. Pain pills won’t heal inflamed tendons and ligaments. Muscle relaxers won’t heal torn muscles. A cervical collar won’t restore a graceful forward spinal curve.

Specific Chiropractic spinal adjustments, because they can help restore proper motion and position of individual spinal bones, can help assure proper healing. Chiropractic doctors can help you get well and stay well after the trauma of a whiplash injury.

Neck Pain

Pain is a warning sign. Like the piercing sound from a smoke alarm, the alarm isn’t the problem. The alarm has a cause, just like every ache or pain has a cause. Some people choose to cover up the pain instead of correcting the cause.

What’s your approach?

The nerve-rich facet joints on the back side of each spinal bone are a common cause of back pain. If these pairs of interlocking “fingers” aren’t moving right, they can cause painful symptoms.

The discs between spinal bones can be a source of back pain, too. These rings of fibrous tissues act as spacers, connectors and “shock absorbers” for the spine. Trauma can cause the soft, pulpy material in the middle to bulge or herniate, putting pressure on delicate nearby nerves.

Once you know the cause, you have several choices. One approach is bed rest. But research shows that prolonged bed rest can actually delay recovery and make the problem worse.

Physical therapy is another option. But exercising spinal joints that aren’t working right is like continuing to drive your car with misaligned tires!

Another choice is to numb or cover up the pain with drugs. While drugs can offer temporary relief, they can’t correct functional problems of affected spinal joints.

The most drastic measure is surgery. A laminectomy cuts off the offending facet joints, leaving the spinal cord exposed! A spinal fusion cuts out the disc tissue and immobilizes the joint. While there may be times when surgery makes sense, it’s expensive, risky and more than half of all back surgeries fail.

More and more people are choosing chiropractic care first. Specific chiropractic adjustments can help improve spinal function.

Better yet, chiropractic care is safe. Chiropractic is natural. And chiropractic looks to correct the underlying cause of the problem.

Headache

There are many types and causes of headaches. Regardless of the cause, if you have a headache, you want it to end. Fast!

This has produced a huge market for medications that cover up the symptoms of headaches. Powerful drugs can numb your nervous system so the pain doesn’t register.

While these approaches may be convenient, they can cause adverse effects and kidney or liver damage. Worse, they don’t correct the underlying cause of the headache.

A cause of headaches can be from spinal bones in the neck that aren’t supporting your head properly. They’re not moving right. This can affect nerves, muscles and even the blood supply to your head. Chiropractic doctors locate areas of the spine that aren’t moving properly. They notice spinal curves. They look at your posture and your ability to turn and bend.

These and many other examinations can help determine if you are likely to benefit from chiropractic care. If you’re a good chiropractic candidate, your care will consist of a schedule of chiropractic adjustments.

These help normalize spinal function, help restore essential spinal curves, improve circulation and reduce nerve irritation. Many patients report fewer and less severe headaches.

While we can’t guarantee results, or office has a high success rate with patients who get headaches.

Sciatica

Sciatica can be a distracting pain that starts in the lower back and extends down into one or both legs. Chiropractic care has proven to be quite helpful.

Those suffering from sciatica are often in their 40s and 50s. It usually begins as an acute pain in the lower back and then it extends down the back of either leg. The pain usually worsens with long periods of sitting or standing.

Like a large river created by smaller streams, five pairs of nerves exit the spine in the lower back to form the two sciatic nerves. The soft, pulpy disc between each spinal bone is often involved. While a disc can’t “slip,” it can bulge, herniate or rupture. This can put direct pressure on the nearby nerves.

The result? Swelling. Inflammation. Pain when coughing, sneezing or with other kinds of movement. Sciatica often worsens with extended bed rest.

Pain pills or muscle relaxers are unable to correct the nerve compression caused by a bulging disc.

Physical Therapy merely exercises the unstable joints. Surgery often involves cutting away disc tissue or removing bone to make room for the nerve. Fortunately, sciatica often responds to safe, natural chiropractic care. Improving joint motion with a series of chiropractic adjustments has produced results for millions.

“Before” and “after” images of the lower back often show improved disc height and spacing. Many patients report that they can resume their lives and that their symptoms have disappeared without drugs or surgery.

Your chiropractic doctor is uniquely skilled to evaluate and reduce the most common cause of sciatic nerve pain.

It’s the natural approach to relief and better health.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is tragic. It causes both physical pain and emotional suffering. This sideways bending of the spine shows up as abnormal posture and then finally, deformity. If allowed to advance, it can interfere the lungs, heart, and many other vital organs.

There is hope.

Scoliosis, affects boys, but more frequently girls, between the ages of 8 and 18. The cause varies. Some are born with this spinal deviation (congenital). Others get it from assuming a distorted head or hip position (habitual). Sadly, in many cases the cause is still unknown.

In the beginning, when it is easiest to correct, there are rarely symptoms. However, an alerts parent may notice that high shoulder or low hip makes clothing fit poorly. Back and leg pains may develop but are often overlooked as merely “growing pains.” Neglect is the biggest danger.

If allowed to run its course, scoliosis can steadily worsen.

Early detection is critical. Severe cases can involve surgery. This procedure attaches steel rods to the spine to force it to straighten.

Chiropractic care has helped many young women avoid the unhappy effects of scoliosis. The procedure is simple.

First, a thorough examination helps detect scoliosis in its early stage. Then, corrective action can begin at once. The primary course of care is a program of specific chiropractic adjustments. These help improve the function and structure of the spine. Muscles strengthen. Posture can improve.

Chiropractic care has helped countless young women reclaim their health, posture and their self-esteem.

Spinal Decay

Your body adapts to uncorrected spinal stress by depositing calcium into affected joints. As if the body is trying to med a broken bone, it attempts to “repair” the malfunctioning spinal joint by joining the two segments together! We call this slow, relentless, degenerative process “spinal decay.”

Spinal decay is a degenerative process that worsens with time. If neglected or simply ignored, this crippling condition quietly progresses, without obvious symptoms.

It starts with some type of uncorrected trauma to the spine. A slip or fall. A car accident. Learning to walk. Even the birth process may be responsible! The first “phase” of spinal decay is revealed as a loss of proper spinal curve or a reduced ability to turn and bend. Other areas of the spine often compensate, starting a chain reaction of health problems.

Left uncorrected, the body responds by depositing calcium onto the affected joint surfaces, ligaments, and connective tissues. This second phase of decay is the result of the body’s attempt to stabilize and “splint” the malfunctioning spinal joint.

As with high blood pressure or cancer, pain or other obvious symptoms are often absent.

Unaware of the serious damage that is occurring, many allow their problem to worsen.

In the third phase of spinal decay, the integrity of the spine has become permanently compromised.

The associated neurological damage can contribute to some of the chronic health problems seen in the elderly. Years have passed since the original event that set this tragic, yet preventable, process in motion.

The purpose of chiropractic care is to locate areas of the spine that are not working right and use specific “adjustments” to improve its function and structure. This simple but powerful intervention has helped millions avoid the crippling effects of spinal decay.

Family Care

As you personally benefit from chiropractic care, you have some new responsibilities. Among them is tell others about your experience. Who better to start with than your own family?

Chiropractic care has been helping families for years. Many patients view their chiropractic doctor as their family doctor. That’s smart. The cost of surgery is rising. The adverse reactions to drugs receive front-page news. Families want safe and natural solutions. More and more are choosing chiropractic care first.

Family care can start from the very beginning. Babies can benefit when their pregnant mothers receive chiropractic care. During this period of weight gain and hormonal changes, many mothers seek chiropractic care. They often report easier births.

Newborns, infants and children can benefit, too. The birth process may be the cause of our first subluxation! Then, learning to walk, ride a bike or play sports can produce so-called growing pains. Ignored, these problems may worsen until they can become more difficult to correct as an adult.

Car accidents, work injuries, and the stress and strains of our busy lives can produce subluxations. Periodic chiropractic checkups can be helpful. Many patients report more energy, vitality and better overall health.

Seniors enjoying an active retirement stop by our office, too. Safe and natural chiropractic care makes sense. They see how the structure of the spine can affect the nervous system and how their bodies work.

Regardless, of your age or condition, a better working spine is good for your health. Share your chiropractic experience with others, starting with those you love.
